7-Eleven Is Top C-store Chain: Trade Dimensions

WESTPORT, Conn. -- Nielsen Trade Dimensions, a service of The Nielsen Company, revealed that Dallas-based 7-Eleven, Inc. is the United States' leading convenience store chain, according to its 2007 Directory of Convenience Stores.

The chain runs about 5,600 locations across the United States, representing more than 3.8 percent of the country's almost 145,000 convenience stores. 7-Eleven also tops Trade Dimensions' exclusive "Top 100" ranking by sales, in front of such top 10 chains as Speedway SuperAmerica, The Pantry, and Valero Energy Corp.

The directory also provides a market-by-market analysis of leading chains, employing proprietary Trade Dimensions geographies to define markets according to prevalent food distribution patterns. 7-Eleven has leading market share positions in nine of those markets and competitive positions in another 15.

As well as charts, rankings, and market share information, the directory provides information on over 2,000 convenience store chains and wholesalers, including contact information, store counts, operating names, states of operation, and average square footage of stores. The directory also lists store gas brands carried (if any), fast food brands offered (if any), expansion plans, merchandise lines carried, programs and services offered, advertising and merchandising materials used, chainwide sales estimates and key personnel, among them buyers and category managers.

"The convenience store industry is an evolving, hard-to-capture industry," said Trade Dimensions director of research operations Thomas Donato. "Our print, electronic, and online versions of the 2007 Directory of Convenience Stores are the most efficient and effective products to keep those in the industry abreast of the thousands of changes -- store openings, closings, mergers, acquisitions, supplier changes, and personnel changes -- that take place each year. The directory is a must-have for anyone supplying or doing business with this industry."

Those who purchase the 2007 directory are also automatically enrolled to receive free Monthly Email Updates throughout the year, which include the latest industry news, announcements, and changes.

All information in the directory is completely updated, revised and 100 percent verified by Trade Dimensions' research staff. This intelligence is extrapolated from Trade Dimensions' Retail Site Database, an exclusive store-level database that encompasses over 400,000 store records. The database is updated year-round with the opening and closing of hundreds of stores.

Owned by Nielsen Homescan & Spectra, Nielsen Trade Dimensions International, Inc. is a Nielsen business. The Nielsen Company, a global information and media company active in more than 100 countries, is also the parent company of Progressive Grocer.
