AB Acquisition LLC, Albertsons LLC Name Two Executive Hires
AB Acquisition LLC, parent company of Albertsons Market, has named Daniel Salemi to the position of president of the company’s pharmacy division. In this new corporate role, Salemi will be responsible for continuing to grow sales and profits across the Pharmacy operations for AB Acquisition LLC, and will report to Justin Dye, incoming COO of New Albertsons Inc., (NAI).
Salemi joins a group of former Albertsons LLC executives who were previously or are currently employed by the company that have been tapped to lead its reorganized regional division when the sale of those stores by Supervalu is completed in mid-March.
“Our pharmacy team has implemented a lot of innovative programs over the last six years,” said Dye. “We’ve reached further into patient care than most traditional grocery retailers by implementing an extensive diabetes care program that includes specialized training for pharmacists, and mobile health care screenings and immunizations, and we’ve also had success with our RxTra Savings prescription card. Our pharmacists have become a valuable link in health care for our patients, and we’re glad to have a leader of Dan’s caliber join our team.”
Salemi, most recently the VP of pharmacy services for Supervalu, began his career with Osco Drug in 1980 as a staff pharmacist and held positions of increasing responsibility in Osco’s pharmacy operation. He was promoted to VP of managed care and pharmacy procurement with American Stores Company prior to the 1999 merger with Albertsons Inc. At Albertsons, Salemi held the role of VP of managed care and joined the Supervalu pharmacy team in 2006.
In related news, Albertson’s LLC has named Jerry Callahan VP of produce merchandising, subject to the close of the transaction announced Jan. 10, 2013, with Supervalu. Callahan will be responsible for growing sales and profits by fostering innovation in the category and assisting the divisions in providing best-in-fresh quality produce and programs.
“Over the last six years, Jerry’s contributions to our in-store produce programs have helped Albertsons LLC to set the bar for what best-in-fresh quality means, both for the industry and for our customers,” said Bob Butler, EVP of operations. “His years of experience combined with his expertise in identifying new consumer trends and quickly implementing in-store programs will be an invaluable asset as we continue developing our produce programs.”
Callahan has been with Albertsons his entire career. He started as an assistant produce clerk in Seattle in 1982, and was a produce sales manager in four divisions before joining the corporate office team in Boise in November 2004. Prior to joining Albertsons LLC in 2006 as produce sales manager for the Southwest division, Callahan was the produce category manager for Albertsons, Inc.
Albertsons Market, owned by Albertson’s LLC, operates 190 stores in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, New Mexico and Texas, and two Super Saver Foods stores in Utah. Boise, Idaho-based AB Acquisition LLC is the parent company of Albertsons LLC.
