AG New England Hires Meat & Deli Merchandiser
Antonio Bastos has joined Associated Grocers of New England as a meat and deli buyer/merchandiser. Bastos, who began working in the grocery industry at the tender age of 15 as a bagger, eventually acquiring invaluable skills at the retail and wholesale levels, most recently managed wholesale product buying in the ice cream and frozen grocery, bakery and meat categories for Keene, N.H.-based distributor C&S Wholesale Grocers
“AG New England recently combined the meat and deli departments,” noted the Pembroke, N.H.-based company’s director of meat, deli and bakery, Robin Plamondon, to whom Bastos reports. “Tony’s focus is purchasing crossover product lines.”
Beginning his career with Scarborough, Maine-based Hannaford Brothers, Bastos worked his way up through the grocery and seafood departments. Later, he became a meat cutter for Choppas Meats and Deli in Jaffrey, N.H.
