Ahold Chilean Subsidiary To Sell Foreign Assets
SANTIAGO, Chile - Santa Isabel, a supermarket chain controlled by Ahold, is preparing to sell its assets in Peru and Paraguay, a company spokeswoman said yesterday.
The company has hired Price Waterhouse and Ernst & Young to assess the value of the subsidiaries, according to a note sent by Santa Isabel to Chile's stock market regulators last week.
"It's true that in Peru and Paraguay they are assessing the value of the assets," a company spokeswoman told Reuters. "There are no interested buyers yet, or anything more specific than that."
Ahold is in the process of selling Santa Isabel to Cencosud, a Chilean retailer, but Cencosud is reportedly not interested in assets outside of Chile. Cencosud expects to complete the acquisition of Santa Isabel next month.
