Ahold USA to Deploy Platform for Supplier Collaboration

Ahold USA, operator of the Stop & Shop, Giant, Martin’s, and Peapod banners, is using an online collaboration platform to enhance its communication with its suppliers.

The Quincy, Mass.-based company is working with RollStream, Inc., a Fairfax, Va.-based provider of enterprise community management solutions to store key business information about its 1,400 direct suppliers via a self-maintained supplier directory. It also plans to use RollStream to manage large-scale rollouts of strategic technology initiatives, execute operational supplier compliance projects within the business divisions, and share strategic supplier information management across operating divisions in the upcoming months.

“In these tough economic times, it has never been more important for grocery retailers to drive profitable partnerships with their suppliers,” said Kristin Muhlner, CEO of RollStream. “We are seeing an increased number of supermarkets select RollStream to create strategic business-to-business networks that improve relationships within their global supply chains. The need to speed time to market and reduce administrative costs is no longer a ‘nice to have’ but rather is business-critical.”

RollStream has been tapped by several U.S. grocers to address a variety of collaboration needs. Bozzuto’s, a Cheshire, Conn.-based supplier of food and nonfood products to independent supermarkets belonging to the IGA network, plans to use RollStream for master data management within its own private, secure, policy-driven supplier community as well as to register new vendors.

Additionally, Mauldin, S.C.-based Bi-Lo has renewed its agreement with Rollstream for resolving item cost dispute issues across thousands of trading partners and distributors.
