Albertsons/Sav-On Attacks Whooping Cough

With the recent outbreak of whooping cough in Washington state, Albertsons/Sav-On Pharmacy is offering the Pertussis “Tdap” vaccine booster at 54 of its pharmacies, without prescription or appointment.

Pertussis, also known as whooping cough, is a contagious disease that causes violent coughing fits making it hard to breathe. It spreads easily when someone with the disease coughs or sneezes. It is recommended that all individuals age 11 and older receive the vaccination.

“This disease can be very serious for young babies, who often get whooping cough from adults and other family members,” said Mary Selecky, Washington state secretary of health. “We want all teens and adults who haven’t had Tdap to be vaccinated to help protect babies that are too young for the vaccine.”

With an ample supply, the vaccine is priced at $54.99 per immunization; a majority of prescription insurances are accepted.
