Alfalfa’s Market Readies for Organic Day
In celebration of September as Organic Month, Alfalfa’s Market on Broadway & Arapahoe in Boulder, Colo., will host its first-ever Organic Day educational event on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Alfalfa’s Organic Day will be a hands-on event that celebrates organic food while offering fun-filled learning activities for all ages, such as:
• An educational panel discussion featuring local organic foods experts and farmers
• Eco-crafts for kids of all ages
• Calves from Aurora Organic Dairy and education about organic dairy production
• Organic food samples
• Live music
• The kick-off of a month-long reusable bag art contest; winners’ artwork will be featured on Alfalfa’s new reusable bags
Since its reincarnation in 2011, Alfalfa's has sought to be an industry leader in organic. The store boasts a 97 percent organic produce department and an 85 percent organic bulk department. Meanwhile, the store's juice and smoothie bar is the only all-organic juice bar in Boulder.
In addition to fun learning opportunities, Alfalfa’s will host an hour-long panel discussion at noon moderated by Mark Retzloff, CEO and co-founder and long-time organic industry pioneer. Other panelists will include: Mary Mulry, Ph.D, president of Foodwise, a product development company devoted to the natural and organic community; Elaine Lipson, author of The Organic Foods Sourcebook, a consumer guide to the meaning of the organic label and the benefits of organic foods; Amy Stafford, Colorado Department of Agriculture’s organic programs manager and; Brent Cannell, director of compliance for Aurora Organic Dairy.
Alfalfa’s is a Boulder-owned and operated organic and natural foods market. With a modern store environment, Alfalfa’s seeks to preserve the same passion, adherence to strict product standards and true community market experience for which the original Alfalfa’s was known.
