Amazon Prime Day to Now Include Whole Foods Stores

Amazon has announced Prime Day, and following almost a full year under the Seattle-based company’s direction, Whole Foods is partaking in the festivities for the first time.

Beginning July 16, the event will last 36 hours – compared to 30 hours last year – and offer more than one million deals exclusively for members of the subscription-based Prime program, including exclusive savings at Whole Foods stores.

“For the first time, U.S. Prime members will also be able to celebrate Prime Day at their local Whole Foods Market,” the ecommerce giant stated.

By downloading the Whole Foods mobile app and scanning the Prime Code, Prime members will be able to “taste the savings” on natural and organic products at the Austin, Texas-based grocer’s stores. They’ll also be able to enjoy another 10 percent off hundreds of sale items throughout Whole Foods stores, as well as deep discounts on select popular products.

Moreover, between July 14 and 17, Amazon Prime Rewards Visa cardmembers with an eligible Prime membership will enjoy double the rewards – 10 percent back – when shopping Whole Foods on up to $400 in total purchases.

Deals on packaged foods won’t be limited to Whole Foods stores. Online, Amazon will feature the “lowest prices” on a wide array of private labels, including 30 percent off Presto health and household goods, Mama Bear baby care products, and Solimo beauty and personal care items.

This arguably marks the largest marriage yet of Whole Foods stores with Amazon’s Prime subscription-based program, which, along with unlimited free two-day shipping, streaming audio and video, now involves amenities in brick-and-mortar operations. Although Amazon first began incorporating special deals for Prime members upon acquiring the natural grocer, it only recently unveiled a new rewards program built around Prime, giving members an additional 10 percent off sale items plus weekly deep discounts on select bestsellers.

Integration of Amazon Prime delivery was another big way Amazon brought Prime and Whole Foods together, when, in February, the ecommerce company launched free two-hour grocery delivery from Whole Foods Market stores via its Prime Now service. While initially available in select markets, the grocery ecommerce service is planned to expand across the country through the rest of the year – and has been doing so.
