A&P-owned Pathmark's First Price Impact Store Opens
The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., Inc. Friday opened the first of a likely rollout of Price Impact Pathmark units, in a remodeled store in Irvington, N.J. A&P said the new format will offer the broadest range of quality groceries, fresh produce, breads, seafood, meats, and other products at what it calls “extraordinary low prices.”
The Irvington Pathmark Sav-A-Center boasts 47,000 square feet, with 36,000 square feet of selling space.
In a conference call last month, Claus said that the debut store would serve as "a template for a massive Pathmark refresh between now and the end of 2009."
“The price impact format is a destination price leader, where the customer basket is impressionably less expensive than conventional supermarkets,” explained A&P president and c.e.o. Eric Claus.
Among the in-store value programs offered by the format are Family Packs, Yellow Tag Savings, and Deal Zones, all of which allow shoppers to maximize their spending while also getting high-quality products at reasonable prices.
The shelves boast a wide selection of national brands, along with A&P’s private label brands such as Pathmark, America’s Choice, Health Pride, and Smart Price.
Each week there will be over 5,000 Yellow Tag price reductions throughout the store, in addition to thousands of items on Price Hold, which will retain the same price from week to week, the grocer said. Hundreds of items -- everything from soda to fresh corn -- will be offered at special Power Prices, and meats, baked goods, and seafood will also be available at value prices.
Further, the renovated location now features an enhanced design, including a bright and open layout with an updated decor and new signage to improve the overall experience for shoppers.
According to A&P, a second Pathmark Price Impact store is scheduled to roll out this month in Edison, N.J.
A&P operates 447 stores in eight states and the District of Columbia under the A&P, Waldbaum's, Pathmark, Best Cellars, The Food Emporium, Super Foodmart, Super Fresh, and Food Basics banners.
