Balducci's Celebrates South American Cuisines
With the cooperation of three South American Embassies, Balducci's Food Lovers Market is celebrating various cuisines of our neighbors to the south with the "Taste of South America" promotion, running at all 10 Balducci's stores through June 29.
As part of the campaign, the gourmet grocer will feature between 80 and100 new products from South America; host free master chef demos with area restaurateurs, including in Islero in New York and Divino Lounge in Washington, and offer a number of vendor tastings in each store. During every Saturday in June from 11a.m. to 5 p.m., each store will feature the events.
"Food plays an important role in many South American cultures, and shoppers in the United States are beginning to incorporate the distinct tastes of this region into their own cooking," said Balducci's c.e.o. Barbara Parasco. "With the summer on its way, it is a perfect time for Balducci's to help our customers put a little extra spice in their lives."
Chilean ambassador Mariano Fernandez will make an appearance at the Bethesda, Md. Balducci's June 7 at 2:00 p.m. During his visit, there will be samplings of South American wine, some of which are making their U.S. debut.
As well as the fresh items prepared at the demonstrations, the grocer's culinary directors have concocted a full menu of South American-inspired dishes for each store's prepared food section, including Brazilian Double Chocolate Cake, Chimichurri Grilled Flank Steak, and Empanada with Chicken and Herbs.
The company will also feature olive oil from Chile, whole bean coffee from Brazil, and roses from Equador.
Bethesda-based Balducci's operates 10 stores throughout the East Coast, along with two locations in New York's JFK airport.
