Belle Foods Set to Unveil QR Codes in Meat Department
Beginning April 10, Birmingham, Ala.-based Belle Foods will be among the nation’s first grocery retailers to implement the use of Quick Response (QR) codes on signage in its meat departments, which will help consumers become more versatile with beef and pork cuts at the point of sale.
Belle Foods’ new meat department QR codes, which will encourage customers to use their smartphones to scan and learn more about cooking methods for various cuts of meat, will route shoppers to a digital database of different cuts of meat, what types of meat are the best for various cooking methods, safe preparation guidelines, recipes and more.
“When we looked at our label program we wanted to make it different and useful for our customers while branding our product and name. Incorporating the Quick Response (QR) code was the ‘Refreshingly Simple’ solution,” said Ken Jones, meat and seafood director for the 57-store Belle Foods, in reference to the regional retailer's tagline.
Jones commended the partners that Belle Foods worked with to launch the implementation of the QR scanner app for beef and pork preparation information, including Yerecic Label, Prairie Fresh Pork, National Beef, the National Pork Board and the Alabama Cattleman’s Association.
With stores in Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Mississippi, Belle Foods will roll out the new meat department QR codes throughout all of its stores on April 10.
Founded by the father/son team of Bill and Jeff White, Belle Foods focuses on quality products, excellent service and affordable prices.
