Bi-Lo, Katie’s Krops Keep Fighting Hunger

Bi-Lo has joined forces with Katie’s Krops to enable the grocer’s customers to make a donation of any size to the nonprofit organization at any store register through Jan. 28.

Noting that Katie’s Krops’ “core mission perfectly aligns with Bi-Lo’s mission to eliminate hunger in the neighborhoods we serve,” Mary Kellmanson, the Jacksonville, Fla.-based grocer’s SVP of marketing, said: “Last year, we partnered with Dole and raised $5,000 for this organization, and we couldn’t be more excited to grow and expand our partnership this year.”

Still Growing

“With Bi-Lo’s help, we have the amazing opportunity to share our mission with thousands of local families and come closer to reaching our goal – to have at least one garden in every state,” added Katie Stagliano, founder of Katie’s Krops, based in Summerville, S.C. “Together, we will be able to make a significant impact in the fight against hunger and provide nutritious foods to families in need.”

The organization now has more than 61 youth-run gardens in 25 states, spanning from Maine to Hawaii. The funds raised through the Bi-Lo partnership will be used to help educate and enable kids to start and maintain vegetable gardens of all sizes, from which thousands of pounds of food are donated annually to local needy families.

Bi-Lo Holdings LLC, the parent company of Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie supermarkets, employs nearly 60,000 associates in 684 grocery stores and 482 in-store pharmacies throughout Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
