Big Y to Offer Free WiFi at all Stores
Big Y will provide free WiFi in all of its locations by the end of the year, citing a desire to “embrace evolving technology.” Fifty-one of the Springfield, Mass.-based grocer’s 64 stores have been offering the service free of charge since February.
Customers with WiFi-enabled devices are able to pick up the WiFi signal throughout the stores and in the Big Y cafés within the chain's World Class Markets. The service allows shoppers to access the newly redesigned Big Y website while shopping, so they can manage their profiles, view store flyers, enter contests and explore special savings while in the store.
“We feel offering free WiFi is an added value that enhances customers’ overall experience in our World Class Markets,” noted Big Y VP of information resources and technology Michael Tami.
Family-owned Big Y, one of the largest independently owned supermarket chains in New England, employs more than 10,000 associates at stores in Connecticut and Massachusetts.
