BJ's First Wholesale Club to Accept Food Stamps Chainwide

BJ's Wholesale Club said yesterday it would expand payment options to members by accepting government-issued food stamp benefits via Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) payments, making it the first wholesale club to do so chainwide. The company now accepts EBT payments at all 180 of its clubs across 15 states.

"The Food Stamp program makes a difference in the lives of millions of Americans across the country, and the benefits they receive positively impact their abilities to feed their families consistently healthy meals," noted BJ’s president and CEO Laura Sen. "BJ's recognizes the diverse financial status and changing needs of its members."

Additionally, BJ's Wholesale Club accepts the most payment options of any U.S. wholesale club chain, including cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover Network, RevolutionCard, ATM cards and EBT payments. The company is also the only wholesale club to accept manufacturer coupons, further addding to consumer savings.

Natick, Mass.-based BJ's operates 180 clubs and 102 gas stations in Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Virginia.
