BJ’s Offers Perdue Organic Chicken
BJ’s Wholesale Club Inc. has expanded its organic assortment to include Perdue Harvestland fresh organic chicken – the first time it has offered an organic protein. The product line offers such items as organic whole chicken, boneless breasts and boneless thighs.
"The organic chicken continues a valued partnership we've had with Perdue Harvestland, which has been a No Antibiotics Ever program since 2007," said Jim Pereira, BJ's fresh meat buyer. "With this addition, we are meeting our members' need for great value on more organic options in all of our clubs."
Added Pereira: "We started with all of the requirements from day one of our Perdue Harvestland chicken. Then we required that it meet the certified USDA Organic criteria. These birds must also be processed separately from noncertified chicken."
Already offering USDA-certified organic produce, bakery and dairy items comprising more than 150 products in club, BJ's plans this month to introduce such certified-organic options as Wellsley Farms Organic Greek Yogurt as part of its exclusive private-brand line, and will introduce more organic options throughout the year, including more produce and traditional grocery items.
Westborough, Mass.-based BJ's operates 207 clubs in 15 states.
