Brookshire Bros. Bows New Express Store

Lufkin, Texas-based Brookshire Brothers unveiled a new 13,222-square-foot Express grocery/convenience concept store in Zavalla. The store, which marks the company's 149th location, "is tailored to meet the needs of the people of Southern Angelina County and the hundreds of thousands of outdoor enthusiasts who visit the area. Shoppers were thrilled today with the selection," explained company spokesperson Sally Alvis.

Featuring a drive-through window for grab-and-go meals, including Brookshire Bros. famous fried chicken, the hybrid store also sells a range of local favorites, such as pallets of deer corn, fresh fruit and veggies, baked goods, fishing tackle and ammo. Alvis said that customer feedback found, "The company got it right when merchandising the store for their town."

Brookshires Bros. COO John Alston and Store Director Josh Higgins welcomed a crowd of some 250 who flocked to attend today's grand-opening festivities. By carrying such a wide array of merchandise inside the compact store, Higgins said customers will no longer have to travel far for their daily necessities.

The employee-owned Brookshire Brothers operates 149 retail outlets incorporating grocery stores, convenience stores, free-standing pharmacies, tobacco and petro locations. Another location is set to open in Apple Springs, Texas, in early fall.
