Brookshire Grocery Co. Helps MDA; Harris Teeter Holds Feast/Drive

Brookshire Grocery Co. and Harris Teeter have joined the growing ranks of grocery retailers extending their generosity to charitable organizations.

Brookshire’s employees and customers raised over $92,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) through the annual Check Out A Cure program, to provide healthcare, equipment, and summer camps for children with neuromuscular diseases throughout Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi. Cashiers sold $1 paper icons to customers for the cause.

North Carolina-based Harris Teeter gave 4,972 people in need a free meal in Raleigh, N.C., at the chain’s Harvest Feast kick-off. In collaboration with local charities, the grocer began its Harvest Feast Food Drive with the dinner.

All 176 Harris Teeter stores are participating in the food drive and items donated will stay in each store’s community. Donation bins are available for non-perishable food items at the entrances of the grocer’s stores. Shoppers can also donate at checkout by purchasing a $5 or $20 food donation card. Cards will be distributed to food bank partners at the end of the drive.
