C-store Sheetz to Fly High in N.C. Airport Retail Development
RALEIGH, N.C. -- A convenience store from Altoona, Pa.-based c-store innovator Sheetz will be included in a new six-acre retail development at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), according to The News & Observer. The project will reportedly be the airport authority's first venture into retail development outside the terminal complex.
Airport officials said they expect the first phase, a gas station with a restaurant and convenience store, to be complete this fall. The airport authority has been negotiating with Sheetz since last fall, according to the report.
The Sheetz store would include 16 pumps and the chain's trademark touchscreen technology for customers to order drinks, coffee, and food, including sandwiches, burgers, and wraps, spokeswoman Monica Jones told the newspaper. Sheetz stations are 5,400 to 5,700 square feet in size, she said in the report.
The store will be convenient not only for people coming to the airport, but also for residents and workers in the surrounding areas of Research Triangle Park, Raleigh, Cary, and Morrisville, noted Jones.
The airport also plans to lease sites for a 7,500-square-foot restaurant and a separate fast-food restaurant. All would be within the six-acre site, according to the report.
