California, Texas Govs Bet Prized Ag Products On Rose Bowl Outcome
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A "California Grown" cornucopia prize package and Texas agricultural products are on the line in a friendly bet between California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Texas Gov. Rick Perry, over the outcome of tonight's highly anticipated Rose Bowl that pits top-ranked USC against No. 2 Texas in Pasadena, Calif.
Should the Trojans defeat Texas in the championship showdown, the California National Guard will receive a variety of Texas-grown agricultural products. Should the Longhorns win, Gov. Schwarzenegger will ship California grown products to the Texas National Guard.
"Much like the USC Trojans, 'California Grown' is up for any national challenge," said Scott Horsfall, c.e.o., Buy California Marketing Agreement. "'California Grown' products are highly sought after throughout the world, and this prize includes the best the state has to offer. We're proud to be called upon to provide a diverse selection of agricultural items for Gov. Schwarzenegger's wager."
The "California Grown" gift prize includes California grown: oranges; strawberries; garlic; poultry and lamb; an assortment of California grown nuts, figs, and wine; canned black olives and cling peaches; California King Salmon, avocados and kiwis.
"California and Texas are the two top agricultural states in the union. California is No. 1 and Texas is No. 2. - just the way it should be for a Rose Bowl outcome!" said A.G. Kawamura, secretary, California Department of Food and Agriculture. "We would love to sample some of the agricultural bounty from our friends from Texas!"
