Cargill Introduces One-Of-A-Kind Tracking System For Premium Brands
WICHITA, Kan. -- Cargill Meat Solutions, based here, has added another step in its commitment to providing quality and consistent premium beef products for its customers, with the development of an online tracking system to help verify the 20-plus key attributes of a carcass.
The online tracking system is paired with the latest camera vision grading technology and provides Cargill with an unmatched technology combination that's used for the selection of Cargill's premium brands.
The tracking system retains data as it's captured through the camera vision grading process. Two key attributes the vision grading process identifies for premium beef selection are rib-eye area and vision yield grade. The information is saved and can be used to verify products' acceptance into either Cargill's Sterling Silver Premium Meats or AngusPride Premium Beef brands.
"Cargill has continually updated its technology to provide our customers with some of the best beef in the market," said Kent Harrison, Cargill's premium group brand manager. "We do this so our retail customers can provide consumers with a great eating experience time after time using our Sterling Silver and AngusPride premium brands. That eating experience is one of the most important factors a consumer considers when they stand in front of the meat case deciding which brand to purchase. This additional step adds credibility and further differentiates our premium programs," added Harrison.
Twelve years ago, Cargill was the first U.S. beef processor to introduce camera vision grading technology. Today Cargill continues to believe in the technology and upgrades the system as updates become available. By the end of 2007, all of Cargill's North American fed-cattle plants will be equipped with the latest camera vision grading technology and will use the online tracking system.
Cargill Meat Solutions, a subsidiary of Cargill, Inc., is one of the largest fresh, frozen and value-added beef, pork, and turkey suppliers in the country.
