CENTER STORE LOGISTICS: New Unilever DC Streamlines Supply Chain

Unilever, whose well-known brands include Hellmann’s, Dove, Bertolli, Ragú, Suave and Q-Tips, has boosted its supply chain capability and sustainable innovation with the March 6 opening of a new distribution center (DC) in Sunridge Industrial Park in Wilmer, Texas.

The new 800,000-square-foot facility is a milestone for the company as one of the first “One Unilever” facilities in the United States, consolidating food and personal care products, and thereby enabling more efficient distribution of the items from a single warehouse. Additionally, the DC is located close to some of Unilever’s largest customers, providing an extra layer of efficiency for the supply chain.

Unilever teamed with Duke Realty and Cushman & Wakefield on the construction of the distribution center, whose setup and operation will serve as benchmarks for future Unilever facilities in the United States. The company’s investment in the Wilmer facility will create about 100 full-time jobs in the area.

A global consumer product goods company with U.S. headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, N.J., Unilever employs nearly 12,000 people in both the United States and Puerto Rico, and generated nearly $10 billion in sales in 2008 in the U.S. market.
