Big Y Foods, Inc. has named Colin M. D’Amour a corporate center store sales manager, focusing on all nonperishable grocery products for the New England grocer. In his new role, D’Amour oversees the financial, marketing and merchandising performance for more than 2,000 products, among them household cleaners, paper goods and baby needs. He reports to Director of Center Store Jason Corriveau.

One of six members of the third generation of D’Amours to be actively involved in the company, D’Amour is a grandson of Big Y co-founder Gerald E. D’Amour and the son of President and COO Charles L. D’Amour.

Colin M. D’Amour started at Big Y as a service clerk in 1998, at the age of 14, rising to hold such roles as produce clerk, warehouse selector and construction/remodel store projects coordinator. He also completed the company’s Supermarket 101 training program.

In 2007, D’Amour became a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving with distinction and eventually earning the rank of captain. In 2010, he was deployed to Helmand, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

In 2014, he left active duty in the Marines and returned to Big Y to enter the store director training program. He was appointed assistant store director in the grocer’s Great Barrington, Mass., store a year later. By 2016, he had been promoted to store director in Pittsfield, Mass., and held the same role in Lee, Mass., before being named to his current position.

One of the largest independently owned supermarket chains in New England, Springfield, Mass.-based Big Y operates 80 locations throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut, including 70 supermarkets, 39 in-store pharmacies, Fresh Acres Market, Table & Vine Fine Wines and Liquors, and eight Big Y Express gas and convenience locations. No. 37 on Progressive Grocer’s 2018 Super 50 list of the top grocers in the United States, the company employs more than 11,000 employees.
