Con Artists Buy Publix Gift Cards Possibly to Resell

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Police here are reportedly on the lookout for two con artists they say bought thousands of dollars worth of Publix gift cards, using stolen American Express gift cards,.

According to a report in the First Coast News, investigators said the men bought the Publix cards during the past few weeks. After they purchasing the cards, using the stolen American Express gift cards, they would call American Express posing as Publix employees and get money put back on their American Express gift cards.

Police suspect that the men are now selling the stolen cards to unsuspecting shoppers.

When the two men struck last week at a Baymeadows Road Publix in Jacksonville, employees immediately called police. While the men were captured on surveillance video, they got away, according to the report.
