Cryovac Wins Five Top Packaging Awards
DUNCAN, S.C -- The Flexible Packaging Association (FPA) has awarded the Cryovac Food Packaging Division of Sealed Air Corporation, based here, a handful of its 2006 Top Packaging Awards.
The Cryovac Simple Steps™ package for produce received a Gold Award in Technical Innovation; the Compression Pack for Cryovac Dri-Loc pads received a Gold Award for Environmental Achievement; the saddle pack-style poultry package received Silver Awards in both Packaging Excellence and Technical Innovation; and the Cryovac iBag shrink package using InfoWrap technology received a Silver Award for Technical Innovation.
All packages were judged on seven criteria: industry advancement, technical advancement, marketing, product protection, convenience, environmental input and innovation.
The Cryovac Simple Steps heat-and-serve package for produce is an easy-open microwavable package designed to steam cook fresh vegetables in approximately two minutes. The vacuum skin format conforms to the contours of the product improving presentation, merchandising appeal and shelf life. This innovative technology is perfect for fresh vegetables in single and multiple servings and is the ideal package for retail, foodservice and vending machines.
Replacing corrugated cartons, the Compression Pack is a space-saving packaging format for Cryovac Dri-Loc absorbent pads. The cartons have been replaced with printed poly bags overwrapped with a clear poly dust cover. This creates a tight, compact bundle that enables more pads to fit in less space for greater efficiency in shipping and saving warehouse space. Made of a flexible packaging material with an easy-open feature, the Compression Pack for Dri-Loc pads is easier to use, employs less material and produces less waste than conventional corrugated cartons.
Cryovac's saddle pack-style multi-unit vacuum package for fresh chicken offers versatility for meal preparation as well as easy storage. Featuring a unique, breathable Cryovac rollstock thermoform film, the leak resistant package consists of six perforated pockets enabling consumers to easily separate portions for meal preparation. Remaining portions can be refrigerated or frozen in the original package, and there is no need to re-wrap the product. Moreover, Cryovac's vacuum packaging protects the chicken from freezer burn, which makes the saddle pack ideal for small families and empty nesters.
