C&S Contributes to Hunger-relief Organizations
KEENE, N.H. -- C&S Wholesale Grocers, Inc. here said Friday that it has recently made donations to various nonprofit organizations involved in combating hunger.
"C&S continues to focus on the issue of hunger," noted C&S c.e.o. and chairman Rick Cohen. "These grants will improve food banks' long-term capacity and will educate new leaders in the fight against hunger. In addition, we're continuing to make ongoing donations of food to America's Second Harvest food banks in our communities to help meet immediate needs."
Recipients of the grants included the following:
--Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, based in Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y., to help increase donations of vegetables and fruit from local farms and community gardens, as well as provide educational outreach and strengthen the organization's "Extra Helpings" program.
--Community Food Bank of the Piedmont, based in Mauldin, S.C., to more than double the organization's current refrigerated space for healthy foods such as yogurt, fruits and vegetables, and meats.
--Congressional Hunger Center, based in Washington, D.C., to allow the anti-hunger leadership training organization's 2005-06 class of National Hunger Fellows to attend conferences, skills-based seminars, or courses.
C&S provides distribution services to grocery chains and independent stores, delivering to more than 4,000 locations from its distribution centers in Alabama, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Vermont.
