C&S Gives to 11 Anti-hunger Groups
KEENE, N.H. -- C&S Wholesale Grocers, Inc. said yesterday that it was awarding corporate grants to anti-hunger organizations in or near areas where the employees of C&S and its subsidiary and affiliate companies work and live.
The grants will benefit programs at 11 food banks that are part of America's Second Harvest in California, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Vermont.
Among the charities receiving grants are the Second Harvest Food Bank of San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties, for its "Senior Brown Bag" program, which delivers supplemental groceries to low-income seniors in the Stockton, Calif. area; the Maryland Food Bank, to support increased visits to local shelters, community kitchens, and food pantries by the organization's mobile food pantry; the Food Bank of Western New York, to help the organization purchase a forklift and expand its "Good Cookin'" program, the latter of which will provide nutrition education to about 150 families; and the Northeast Regional Pennsylvania Food Bank, for the introduction of a nutrition education program that will teach families how to plan, shop for, and cook healthy meals.
The 10th-largest privately held company in the nation, C&S provides distribution services to grocery chains and independent stores, delivering to over 5,000 locations from its distribution centers in Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Alabama, California, and Hawaii.
