Cub Foods Builds Largest Fruit Display
Cub Foods has teamed up with produce company Robinson Fresh to break the Guinness World Record for Largest Fruit Display.
Robinson Fresh transported four truckloads of MelonUp! Pink Ribbon watermelons to the Cub store in Maple Grove, Minn., in which 10,200 watermelons were constructed into a 1,500-square-foot, 157,000-pound display.
Shoppers were able to visit the display on July 26, where they received free watermelon samples, prizes, and took part in watermelon eating and seed-spitting contests.
As part of the promotion, Fairview Clinics’ mobile mammography unit was on site, and representatives from Susan G. Komen Minnesota spoke to consumers about nationwide breast cancer research efforts.
“We are excited for the opportunity to promote MelonUp! Pink Ribbon watermelon, an important summer product of ours, in such a big way,” said Darren Caudill, VP of merchandising and sales for Cub Foods.
The MelonUp! Pink Ribbon watermelons are part of Robinson Fresh’s cause marketing program, in which a portion of all watermelon sales are donated to breast cancer research organizations on behalf of participating retailers.
Stillwater, Minn.-based Cub Foods operates 77 stores in Minnesota and Illinois.
