Dannon Expanding Probiotic Portfolio

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- One year after the introduction of Activia, the Dannon Co., Inc. said yesterday it was expanding its lineup of probiotic fresh dairy foods with functional benefits. The three products to be introduced this year are DanActive dairy drink, Danimals with LGG drinks and lowfat yogurt, and Activia Light nonfat yogurt.

Furthermore, we believe that these better-for-you products are convincing more people to eat cultured fresh dairy productson a regular basis and enjoy their nutritional benefits."

The rollout of Activia marked the first national introduction of a probiotic lowfat yogurt in the United States. Activia contains Bifidus regularis, a probiotic culture clinically proven to help regulate the digestive system when eaten daily for two weeks. Since its launch in January 2006, Activia has topped $100 million in U.S. retail grocery sales.

Probiotics, meaning "for life," are living microorganisms, usually lactic acid bacteria, that, when consumed in sufficient quantities, can provide health benefits beyond basic nutrition. Estimated at $10 billion, the global probiotics yogurts and dairy drinks market is on track to continue growing, driven by an rising number of products.

Launching nationwide in January 2007, DanActive is a cultured probiotic dairy drink that has been clinically proved to help bolster the body's defenses when consumed daily. DanActive was previously available only in select test markets across the United States. With more than 6 million bottles consumed daily around the world, DanActive was first introduced in Europe in 1994 and later Asia under the brand name Actimel.

Also in January 2007, Dannon is also adding the world's most researched probiotic culture for children, Lactobacillus GG (LGG), to its existing Danimals line of lowfat yogurt cups and drinks made for kids. Danimals Drinks and Danimals XL varieties will now contains no artificial colors, no artificial flavors and no high fructose corn syrup. In addition, Danimals Cups already have 25 percent less added sugar in each serving, and, during spring 2007, will be reformulated as Danimals Cups with LGG.

In early 2007 Dannon is launching Activia Light, a fat-free, reduced-calorie version of the probiotic yogurt.

Owned by Groupe Danone, Dannon, which has plants in Minster, Ohio; Fort Worth, Texas; and West Jordan, Utah, produces and sells about 100 types of flavors, styles, and sizes of cultured fresh dairy products.
