Daymon Worldwide Names Brennan Vice Chair; Miller President, COO
STAMFORD, CT - Private label consulting firm Daymon Worldwide yesterday named Peter Brennan vice chairman of the board and Alex Miller, most recently e.v.p., has been appointed to succeed Brennan as president and c.o.o. of the company.
Brennan becomes the first ever vice chairman of Daymon - a newly created position -- and Miller becomes only the second president in the history of the company. Prior to Brennan's appointment as president in 1992, Daymon co-founders Milton Sender and the late Peter Schwartz were co-chairmen. There was no president.
Brennen will also be the first dean of Daymon University, Daymon told Progressive Grocer. Daymon University is a learning institution dedicated exclusively to the cultivation and enrichment of knowledge in all aspects of private label.
Miller reports to Sender, who remains the company's chairman. Daymon e.v.p.s George Sarkis and Ed Wright, as well as Frank Cohenour, president of Daymon's Demonstration division, now report to Miller. Brennan now reports to Sender, and the Daymon board of directors.
"We have accomplished a tremendous amount in terms of private label global expansion and penetration in the past 15 years under Peter's hands-on leadership as president," said Sender. "We have more than quintupled our number of associates, customers, and principal partners, and we have created relationships with retailers in 18 countries."
Sender continued: "This is a position and a title we have never had before, but I believe with the growth and complexity of the organization and the industry, and considering our aggressive future growth objectives, this will prove to be a very pivotal position for the corporation in the moving forward. This is an historic event for Daymon Worldwide."
Brennan said Miller has "outstanding experience in domestic retail operations, the international arena and has headed various Daymon headquarters departments and capabilities. Even more, he has demonstrated great leadership skills and a vision of where Daymon is going."
Miller began his supermarket career in 1970 at Chatham Supermarkets in Detroit, Mich., and remained with that company for an eight-year span that was briefly interrupted by a stint in the military. At Chatham he worked in various store level positions, rising to store manager at the age of 27. He spent his last three years at the Chatham headquarters in the procurement and merchandising departments as wine buyer, frozen food merchandiser, private label merchandiser, and assistant grocery merchandiser.
Miller joined Daymon as account manager when Chatham and Daymon began working together in 1980. He became v.p. and company officer in 1986, and in 1988 was promoted to group v.p. In 1996 he was named e.v.p. and moved to Daymon headquarters in Stamford, Conn. During his career at Daymon, Miller has worked with Jewel Food Stores, PETsMART, American Stores, and Wild Oats. In his most recent role he has been responsible for Daymon's international business, which has seen unprecedented growth over the past five years into 18 countries. He has also been responsible for many of Daymon's corporate services at its Resource Center in Stamford.
Brennan began his supermarket career working for Kroger as an undergraduate at Michigan State University. Upon graduation he joined American Home Products' National Foods Division as district manager for the Michigan area. In 1973 Brennan joined Daymon Associates - as the company was know then -- as a retail representative for the Cleveland, Ohio-based Allied Supermarkets chain, which at the time was one of Daymon's five customers. He moved to Buffalo, N.Y. in 1976 to launch Daymon's operations at the newly acquired Loblaws account, and in 1980, he moved again to Minneapolis to oversee all Daymon/Loblaws private label operations.
In 1982, Brennan joined Daymon's headquarters team to spearhead the development, start-up and operation of a network of central resource teams, including design, trading and category development. In 1992, Brennan was promoted to president and became a company officer.
Daymon Worldwide is a privately held, employee-owned international company specializing in the sales and marketing of private label consumer products, working with retail, wholesale, and food service companies across the U.S. and around the world. Daymon serves more than 3,500 manufacturers of food and all types of private label products. The company employs over 14,000 associates in 18 countries.
