Dean & DeLuca Settles on West Coast Flagship Location
NEW YORK -- Gourmet and specialty food retailer Dean & DeLuca here said yesterday that that it would open a 23,000-square-foot West Coast flagship store in fall 2009 at the Fashion Island outdoor center in Newport Beach, Calif. The location will be the anchor tenant in a new two-level building.
Featuring a vast assortment of prepared foods, fresh produce, artisan cheeses, specialty meats, fresh seafood, espresso, and pastries, the new store will also include a wine department offering hard-to-find, small-production California wines, in addition to a cafe and wine bar with indoor/outdoor seating, the gourmet grocer said.
"Not only is Fashion Island a great match demographically for Dean & DeLuca, but we believe the coastal lifestyle embodied in Newport Beach is a perfect fit for the Dean & DeLuca brand," noted Dean & DeLuca Leslie Rudd in a statement.
Added Keith Eyrich, president of Retail Properties for the Irvine Co., owner of Fashion Island: "We wanted our new building at this important entry location to feature a food and wine icon that caters to our sophisticated customers, and Dean & DeLuca was at the top of our list."
Build-out is slated to start in summer 2008.
Dean & DeLuca specialty products are sold through its 15 retail stores and cafes in the New York; Washington, D.C.; Napa Valley, Calif.; Charlotte, N.C.; and Kansas City, Kan. markets, a consumer and corporate gift catalog, and an e-commerce site, www.deandeluca.com. The company also markets its private label products to other retailers and wholesalers worldwide.
