Deli Trends: Harris Teeter Takes Signature Subs “Heyer”
In a bid to further solidify its stalwart prepared foods lineup, Matthews, N.C.-based Harris Teeter (HT) yesterday gave Washington Redskins fans a chance to meet offensive tackle Stephon Heyer for lunch and an autograph at its Reston, Va., store location.
As one of several partnerships the 140-store regional grocer has made with professional athletes for its namesake Signature Sub Sandwiches, Heyer was on hand to offer samples of his eponymous sub, which sells for $3.99 and features roasted turkey, ham, wasabi spicy mustard, Swiss cheese, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, and onions on French bread.
The always-innovative “HT” — which operates locations in eight states including North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Maryland, Delaware and in the District of Columbia (D.C.) — sweetens the deal with a $4.99 Signature Sub Sandwich lunch pack that features a “half-Heyer” and a choice of one Chocolate Chunk, Macadamia Nut, Oatmeal Raisin, or Cranberry Nut Cookie.
Available in the Fresh Foods Market Sandwich Shop in all northern Virginia and D.C. Harris Teeter locations, “The Heyer” is the second Washington Redskins Signature Sub Sandwich of the season from the former Maryland Terp.
While more signature sandwiches are expected to be in the works from other Redskins favorites, the grocer has also teamed up with Carolina Panthers linebacker Jon Beason and wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad to design tasty signature subs as well. Beason’s “The Beast” is filled with grilled chicken breast, bacon, onions and Provolone cheese with mayonnaise, BBQ sauce, and a dash of salt and pepper on a white sub roll; while Muhammad’s “87 Special” is made with turkey and ham, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, banana peppers and black olives with light mayonnaise, mustard, and Italian seasoning on a white hoagie roll.
Just a few more compelling reasons why shoppers are loving supermarket sandwiches these days.
