Edeka to Install 600 Reverse Vending Machines for Bottle Returns
German food retailer Edeka plans to install 600 reverse vending machines in its stores to be used for the return of one-way and refillable containers, in addition to deploying several other self-service automation systems.
The deployment is part of a two-year contract that Hamburg, Germany-based Edeka signed with technology vendor Wincor-Nixdorf. “With this framework agreement, Wincor Nixdorf and Edeka underscore the long-lasting and successful cooperation between both companies,” says Jörn Förster, who is responsible at Wincor Nixdorf for the company’s reverse vending machine business.
The order also comprises a wide range of store technology, including compactors, as well as services such as installation, startup and service agreements. The 600 systems will be installed both in subsidiary-based operations associated with Edeka’s regional companies and in the group’s independent retail stores.
The Edeka Group operates 12,000 stores of varying formats throughout Germany.
