Ex-Pathmark Exec Named to Head Conn. Food Assn.
FARMINGTON, Conn. -- The Connecticut Food Association (CFA) here has named Stan Sorkin its new executive director. The appointment comes a year after the death of Grace Nome, who had headed the organization for 26 years.
"The CFA has spent the past year in transition," noted CFA chairman of the board George Motel, e.v.p. of retail development for Cheshire, Conn.-based wholesaler Bozzuto's, Inc., in a statement. "As a result the association has become a much more member- driven organization. Under Stan's leadership, we are ready to go to another level."
A 40-year veteran of the food industry, Sorkin most recently served as corporate director of marketing and government relations for AlphaI Marketing Corp., the marketing arm of White Plains, N.Y.-based Krasdale Foods, a New York-area grocery wholesaler servicing independent retailers doing business under the C-Town, Bravo, and AIM banners. In this role Sorkin handled corporate marketing strategy and the development of the media mix, creative, and in-house production of the advertising programs for these supermarket groups. He was also Krasdale's representative in the areas of local, state, and federal government relations; press and media relations; and community-based lobbying activities.
Before joining AlphaI Marketing, Sorkin held various senior-level merchandising and management positions at Pathmark, among them v.p. of grocery merchandising, v.p. of sales, and v.p. of public affairs.
Sorkin's food industry experience also includes serving four terms as chairman of the Food Industry Alliance of New York State, CFA's counterpart in that state, as well as being chairman of the New Jersey Food Council (NJFC) and a member the Food Marketing Institute's Government Relations Committee.
The CFA is a trade association representing major chains, independent grocers, convenience stores, manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, specialty food stores, and producers in the state of Connecticut.
