Farm Boy to Open Second Store in Kanata, Ont.
OTTAWA, Ont. -- Farm Boy, Inc. here, a locally owned retail grocer specializing in quality fresh foods, said yesterday that it would open a new store in spring 2007 as "the centerpiece" of the Kanata Signature Centre in Kanata, Ont. This store will be in addition to the 16,000-square-foot store slated to open in November in the Blue Heron Mall, also in Kanata.
The Kanata Signature Centre store will measure more than 24,000 square feet will feature, along with the retailer's usual produce, meat, bakery, deli, and dairy departments, a Farm Boy Chef Prepared Kitchen, where trained chefs daily prepare fresh meals to go.
Construction for the Blue Heron mall store is proceeding according to schedule, Farm Boy said, and the completed store will employ about 100 area residents.
The two new stores will bring Farm Boy's total locations to 10, nine in the Ottawa area and one in Cornwall, Ont. The retailer additionally produces its own line of value-priced private label products.
