FMI SafeMark Program Earns ANSI Accreditation

Food Marketing Institute (FMI) has garnered American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Accredited Program Certificate Issuer status for its SafeMark Quick Reference Food Safety for Food Handlers Certificate Program.

The Arlington, Va.-based trade association describes SafeMark as “a unique, retail-specific, food safety training program for the food retail industry … designed to help companies reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses through in-store retail solutions.”

“We have witnessed an influx of jurisdictions that require training providers to be accredited under the ANSI Certificate Accreditation Program, since ANSI ensures the integrity of voluntary standards that support the safety of the U.S. food supply chain,” said Hilary Thesmar, FMI’s chief food and product safety officer, and VP, food safety programs. “FMI’s qualification distinguishes SafeMark as a credible, universal and effective food safety solution that meets food retailers’ local and state regulatory requirements.”

The Quick Reference program, which includes a trainer’s kit and guide for classroom training, can be purchased online.

FMI’s U.S. members operate nearly 40,000 retail food stores and 25,000 pharmacies, representing a combined annual sales volume of almost $770 billion.
