Food City Introduces Money-Saving Fuel Program
ABINGDON, Va. -- As high fuel prices continue to cause concern among consumers, Food City is providing some much needed relief for shoppers across Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, and Southeast Kentucky by launching a new fuel savings program called "Food City Fuel Bucks."
The program, which began May 14 and will run through July 29, Food City ValuCard shoppers will have two ways to earn "fuel bucks." For every $25 in groceries they spend in a single visit to the store -- regardless of whether or not they purchase store-brand products -- shoppers will receive a $1 fuel buck. Shoppers can also earn a $1 fuel buck for every $10 in Food City store brand purchases, which include Food City, Food Club, Full Circle, Paws, ValuTime, Top Care, Academix, World Classics, and Dining-In lines of products.
"Higher gas prices are challenging family budgets, which is putting a strain on food budgets," said Steve Smith, Food City president and c.e.o., during a tour of the region, including stops in Blountville, Tenn., Lebanon , Va., Big Stone Gap, Va., and Pikeville, Ky. "Customer service is our top priority at Food City. We live, work and educate our children in the communities where we operate, and we are very aware of the effect rising fuel costs are having on the families we serve."
Fuel bucks will automatically dispense at the checkout at the conclusion of each shopping trip, and customers can redeem fuel bucks at any Food City Gas 'N Go location before Sept. 4, 2006. To redeem the vouchers, customers should present their fuel bucks to the Gas 'N Go cashier along with their ValuCard when purchasing fuel. The campaign does not include the purchase of videos, gift cards, pharmacy items, cigarettes, or alcohol.
Food City will test the concept in the Tri-Cities division stores, which include more than 40 stores in Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, and Southeast Kentucky. Expansion of the program to additional Food City locations will depend on the success of the program after the 11-week trial period in the northern division.
Headquartered in Abingdon, Food City operates 97 retail food outlets throughout the tri-state region of Southeast Kentucky, Southwest Virginia, and Northeast Tennessee.
