Food Institute, OU to Team for Kosher Certification Webinar
ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. and NEW YORK -- The Food Institute and the Orthodox Union will jointly present "Kosher Certification 101," a 60-minute Webinar, on Wednesday, Aug. 1 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time on the Food Institute's Web site, www.foodinstitute.com. The intended audience includes retailers, manufacturers, and other professionals interested in learning about kosher certification.
"This Webinar is a marriage made in heaven of two organizations in the food industry that have education as a priority in their work," said Rabbi Dr. Eliyahu Safran, senior rabbinic coordinator and v.p. of marketing/communications of OU Kosher, who will take part in the event. Safran noted that the Webinar would explain "how kosher certification works, the benefits of kosher-certified products, and the difference between the OU and other kosher certifications."
The Webinar will also define the difference between kosher and nonkosher products, identify ingredients that are rarely or never kosher, and explain why so many foods require kosher certification.
"With kosher sales expanding by leaps and bounds every year -- in great part to non-Jewish consumers -- more and more companies are becoming interested in learning the basics of kosher production and its advantages to them so they can make an informed decision about bringing the process to their facilities," continued Safran. "'Kosher Certification 101' will be highly informative and in many cases can be expected to pave the way for 'Kosher Certification 102,' in other words, starting the process of becoming certified."
