Food Lion Introduces New 'Better for You' Store-brand Chips
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Just in time for football tailgating and holiday parties, Food Lion is introducing a new line of private brand potato chips that, in response to customer feedback, contains no trans fat and no preservatives.
Now available at all 1,200 Food Lion stores, the chips come in four varieties: Classic, Wavy, Barbeque, and Sour Cream & Onion. Food Lion's everyday price for the line is $4 for two 13.5-ounce bags. (Story continues below.)
Food Lion and Snack Alliance of Bristol, Va., developed recipes and packaging for the new potato chips, after conducting focus groups of Food Lion customers.
"Our goal was to enhance Food Lion potato chips, and give customers what they wanted -- a crispier chip and fewer broken chips at the bottom of the bag," said Susan Richter, Food Lion category manager.
The new Food Lion potato chips are thinner, making them crispier and lighter, fulfilling a key customer desire. Cooked with a vegetable oil blend, the chips contain no trans fat and no preservatives. The Classic and Wavy chips are also gluten-free.
All four varieties of Food Lion potato chips come in new foil-lined bags. "The new bag keeps the chips fresher and helps prevent breakage," explained Richter. "This helps ensure a great eating experience for Food Lion shoppers."
All Food Lion brand products come with a 100 percent satisfaction guarantee. If not satisfied with a Food Lion product for any reason, customers will receive a full refund.
Food Lion, LLC is a subsidiary of Brussels-based Delhaize Group.
