Food Lion Opens Prototype for Upstate S.C. Market
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Food Lion today is unveiling the first of three stores to open in Spartanburg County, S.C. this year. The store is the prototype for Food Lion's future upstate South Carolina stores.
The newest store, a 35,000-square-foot unit in Lyman, S.C., offers the latest in the chain's design, product assortment, and shopping advancements, Food Lion said. It includes a wide selection of international and specialty items, a Nature's Place department offering natural and organic products; and a large wine department, featuring California and international wines, Food Lion's exclusive Braidenwood Estates wine, and the new Bohemian Highway wines.
The store groups together the full-service deli-bakery department, wine, and natural and organic foods sections.
Food Lion's Nature's Place department offers approximately 1,400 natural and organic products, including chips, cereals, baking ingredients, pastas, juices, cookies, soy items, teas, soups, bulk items, frozen foods, refrigerated dairy products, pet products, and household items. To meet the needs of customers with dietary restrictions, many of the products found in Nature's Place are non-dairy, gluten free and wheat free.
Food Lion said the store also offers a large fresh produce department; large meat department featuring Butcher's Brand Premium Beef, fresh pork and poultry; fresh seafood; greeting cards; fresh-cut floral items; Western Union service; carpet cleaner rentals; propane tank exchange; and a Coinstar machine.
Overall, the store stocks more than 28,000 different products.
The store design features an exposed ceiling and abundant natural lighting. Outside, a pitched roof gives the store what Food Lion calls "a unique and welcoming look, something new to the Upstate region."
"We are excited and proud to open the Lyman Food Lion store," said Robert Stapleton, regional v.p. of retail operations, in a statement. "We think it's distinctly different from any other supermarket in the Upstate region."
The store, open 24 hours daily, employs a staff of 55. Grand-opening activities today include food sampling throughout the store, the 40-foot Coke Fun Zone trailer, the Butcher's Brand Premium Beef traveling grill, Food Lion gift card and other prize drawings, local fire and police department displays, and free balloons for kids.
