Food Lion Rolls out Lower Prices
Food Lion is slashing prices across its stores on thousands of items shoppers purchase most often. The lower prices will take effect over the next several weeks, along with weekly savings on promotional items bought with the Salisbury, N.C.-based grocer’s MVP loyalty card. Categories affected by the price cuts include milk, bread, produce, meat, juice, cereal, canned goods, detergent, paper products and pet food.
“Food Lion has a long-standing heritage of delivering low prices to its customers,” said Cathy Green, president of the Food Lion family of banners. “In today’s economic environment, we know price, more than ever, matters to our customers. We estimate customers can save up to 25 percent to 30 percent on their total grocery bill by taking advantage of new, lower prices, as well as MVP promotions. We have always helped our customers save on their groceries and now we are helping customers save even more through our new, lower prices.”
“Our actions … demonstrate our commitment to continuing to distinguish Food Lion as a low-price leader in the markets we serve," added Food Lion SVP James Egan. “We want to serve our customers by having great prices, quality products, delivering great service and providing convenient locations.”
The grocer is additionally advising shoppers in search of value to purchase lower-cost private brand products; use coupons when they visit the supermarket; enroll in Shoppers’ Companion, Food Lion’s weekly e-mail to MVP cardholders; participate in Food Lion’s text programs for special offers and coupons; and keep an eye out for special deals throughout our store, including “Meal Deals” enabling a customer to purchase a meal for a family of four for under $10.
The chain will publicize the reduced prices in-store and on its Web site, www.foodlion.com.
Delhaize-owned Food Lion operates over 1,300 supermarkets, either directly or through affiliated entities, under the Food Lion, Bloom, Harveys or Reid’s banners. The Food Lion family employs about 74,000 associates in 11 Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states.
