Food Lion Trots Out the Turkey – With a Twist

Food Lion, LLC has rolled out its “MVP Free* Turkey” program for Thanksgiving in select markets, enabling shoppers to earn $20 off their next shopping order electronically by using their MVP loyalty cards and spending $45 a visit weekly at Food Lion. Customers must shop six of eight weeks to be eligible for the electronic coupon.

“The program this year provides customers an easier and more convenient way to participate, with no more paper tickets or coupons to collect,” said Dave Godfredson, director of advertising and sponsorships at Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion. “Customers just need to use their personal MVP Card. Also, we are leveraging new technology this year for consumers, and their turkey credits will be tracked electronically so that the customer no longer needs to hold onto their receipts. We believe the new and improved process will be much more convenient and simple for our customers. This coupon can be used on any holiday food needs.”

Additional program details are as follows:

--To enroll in the program, customers should scan the Free* Turkey Card from the weekly flier, and their personal MVP Cards at the start of the promotion. Once the Free* Turkey Card is scanned, customers won’t need to scan it again
--On each store visit, customers should scan their personal MVP Cards to ensure that all credits are received for the purchase
--Free* turkey promotional updates will be printed on the bottom of customers’ receipts
--All $20 electronic coupons will expire Dec. 8, 2009

A full list of official rules is available at the store or www.foodlion.com. The promotion marks the chain’s eighth consecutive turkey giveaway program.
