Giant-Carlisle/Tops Taps 'Community Champion' Program in Each Store

CARLISLE, Pa. -- To encourage each of its stores to get more directly involved in its immediate area, every Giant Food Stores, LLC; Martin's Food Markets; and Tops Markets location now boasts a Community Champion -- an associate who serves as a liaison between customers, the store, and the Ahold banners' corporate community relations department.

"Community involvement is an integral part of our corporate mission, and with the 'Community Champion' program, we are able to increase this commitment at the local level," said Giant-Carlisle/Tops president and c.e.o. Carl Schlicker. "This program gives us the opportunity to put a local name and face to community efforts, and increases [the banners'] involvement at each individual store."

The community champion develops and executes local programs and promotes his or her individual store within the community, the retailer said. As well as creating family-friendly events for holidays, and multicultural celebrations, the community champion also carries out corporate community relations initiatives on the local level; takes part in local events; promotes 'Cash for Causes,' the banners' discount gift card program for not-for-profit fundraising; and works with the store manager on requests for local donations.

Additionally, shoppers will find at their local store a Community Information Board, which will provide information on events, pending fundraising initiatives, and news of the banners' local involvement.

Giant Food Stores operates stores in Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia under the names of Giant Food Stores, Tops Markets, Martin's Food Markets, and FoodSource.
