Giant Eagle Chicken Crosses Western Pa.
Giant Eagle earlier this month launched its new Fried Chicken Express food truck, which will serve the retailer’s signature fried chicken at stops in Pittsburgh and throughout Western Pa. This latest rollout marks the retailer’s second food-truck venture, with its Market District Foodie Truck operating in Columbus, Ohio, since 2012.
Featuring a menu of chicken-centric items, including Firecracker Chicken Sandwich, an eight-piece bucket of fried chicken, and individual meals, fajitas, salads, wraps, chili and side dishes, such as Market District macaroni and potato salads, the retailer said the food is priced comparably to parity items in stores.
Giant Eagle originally wanted to take its popular fried chicken, which is prepared at a Market District store in Bethel Park, Pa., to communities, festivals, outdoor and sports activities, events often served by other food trucks, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. What distinguishes this truck from the competition, however, is that it is solely focused on fried chicken, Giant Eagle told the newspaper.
The Fried Chicken Express will operate throughout the summer, with Giant Eagle updating where and when to find the truck via dedicated Facebook and Twitter pages.
Giant Eagle Inc. operates more than 420 retail locations throughout western Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland and Indiana.
