Giant Eagle Gives Further Details About C-Store Venture
PITTSBURGH - Giant Eagle Inc. on Tuesday officially announced it has formed a joint venture with Guttman Enterprises, operators of the Crossroads convenience stores, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. The news was initially reported on GroceryNetwork.com on June 13. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Guttman Enterprises is a subsidiary of Belle Vernon-based Guttman Oil Co. It operates 27 convenience stores in western Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland.
"The synergies of Guttman on the fuel side and Giant Eagle on the convenience side will allow for lower costs on both sides of the equation," said Giant Eagle spokesman Rob Borella.
The joint venture, to be known as Crossroads Convenience LLC, will also operate gas pumps and convenience stores at Giant Eagle store locations.
Giant Eagle first opened a fueling station with limited convenience items at one of its stores last year. There are currently 12 Giant Eagle stores that sell gasoline.
Future freestanding convenience store locations will resemble the newest Crossroads store format, which includes a 4,500-square-foot convenience store, a deli, a conveyor car wash, and 20 fueling points, according to the newspaper.
Giant Eagle said it will integrate its shopper loyalty program, known as the Advantage Card, into the Crossroads locations.
