Giant Eagle Opens New 'Superette' Concept under GetGo Banner
PITTSBURGH -- Giant Eagle, Inc. here debuted a 5,000-square-foot, new concept GetGo "superette" in Wilkinsburg, featuring an expanded selection of more than 100 produce items.
The new format is also the 100th location flying the banner of Giant Eagle's flourishing GetGo fuel and c-store subsidiary, which the grocer launched just three years ago.
"With the GetGo Superette, we'll provide the best of both worlds -- a high-quality, fresh Bodega-style market and neighborhood store that offers the right assortment of 'fill-in' and immediate consumption products like freshly prepared food with speedy, friendly service," said Dan Pastor, Giant Eagle's v.p. of fuel and convenience store operations, of the new format.
"We felt we could develop and deliver a format that provided for a 'full-shop,' as well as a 'got to get it now' store that still provides value and quality," Pastor added. "With this new GetGo Superette concept, we feel that we've achieved it." He called the Wilkinsburg market "a perfect candidate for the new concept," because "there are few grocery alternatives to serve those residents."
In addition to an expanded selection of produce, the new GetGo Superette offers a deli with sliced packaged meats and cheeses; a 12-foot meat section featuring packaged chicken, turkey, ham steak, bacon, pork, sausage, salami, pot roast, meatloaf, hamburgers, hot dogs and bratwurst; a 16-foot mini-dairy mart with nearly 400 items including a variety of milk and cheeses, yogurt, orange juice, custard, fruit punch, sour cream, dips, cottage cheese, eggs, cream and butter; a variety of breads, muffins, pies and bagels in the bakery; soft drinks, potato chips, pretzels and snack cakes; a wide selection of Giant Eagle corporate branded products; and other comprehensive departments focused on areas such as baby and pet supplies.
The new GetGo concept store also offers a 12-pump, self-service fuel station that enables customers to participate in Giant Eagle's fuelperks! customer loyalty program. The program offers a 10-cent discount on each gallon of gas purchased at GetGo for every $50 spent with the Giant Eagle Advantage Card, inside Giant Eagle supermarkets and GetGo locations.
The new GetGo Superette will be open from 5:00 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.
Giant Eagle operates 140 corporate and 74 independently owned and operated supermarkets in addition to 100 fuel and convenience stores throughout western Pennsylvania, Ohio, north central West Virginia and Maryland.
