Giant Food to Sell Irradiated Ground Beef in Baltimore-Washington Area
LANDOVER, Md. - Giant Food, headquartered in Landover, Md., has become the first major food retailer in the Baltimore-Washington area to offer case-ready irradiated ground beef processed with SureBeam Corporation's electron beam technology.
The Ahold unit is selling two SureBeam processed fresh ground beef products -- lean ground beef (93 percent lean/7 percent fat) and ground chuck (85 percent lean/15 percent fat) packaged in case-ready trays.
Giant Food supermarkets' entry into the market brings to over 850 the total number of stores in the Midwest, Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states offering SureBeam processed fresh ground beef. SureBeam is headquartered in San Diego.
