Giant Landover Brochure Marks Black History Month
Giant Food LLC is observing Black History Month in February by releasing its 23rd annual "Profiles in Excellence" brochure highlighting significant contributions to society made by African-Americans. The 2015 brochure pays tribute to African-American inventors and innovators in the food industry.
Available at all Giant Food stores while supplies last, "Profiles in Excellence" tells the inspirational stories of such pioneers as George Washington Carver, who came up with new agricultural methods for a range of plants, most notably peanuts; George Crum, inventor of the first potato chips; Augustus Jackson, dubbed the "father of ice cream"; Alfred L. Cralle, creator of the ice cream scoop; and Frederick Jones, who designed a portable unit for cooling the air in trucks carrying perishables.
"This Black History Month, we recognize the immeasurable contributions of these individuals in shaping American life," said Jamie Miller, Giant's manager of public and community relations. "We invite our community members to join us in our salute to these innovators."
Giant has also provided local schools and community organizations with free copies of the brochures to use as an educational tool to raise awareness of African-American achievements and contributions throughout history.
