Giant-Landover Touts Local Produce

In partnership with more than 60 local farmers, Giant Food LLC is offering, an assortment of fresh seasonal produce at all of its stores. Popular items now available at the Ahold USA-owned chain include are corn, tomatoes, green beans, mushrooms, squash, blueberries, cucumbers and green peppers.

"Giant Food prides itself in supplying our customers with the freshest, highest-quality groceries possible," noted Gordon Reid, president of the Landover, Md.-based grocer, adding that the program's aim was "to enhance our relationship with the local grower community and connect all of our shoppers with the very best seasonal fruits and vegetables grown nearby."

All Giant Food locations feature a photo cutout in the produce department that customers (and their families and friends) are encouraged to pose with and post to the banner's Facebook page now through the end of July, for a chance to win a $25 gift card and a canvas bag. Two winners will be drawn each week.

Additionally, Giant Food's website offers recipes and cooking tips for fresh summer produce, a complete list and map of where the produce comes from, and videos of featured local farmers.

Giant Food operates 169 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia, employing about 20,000 associates.
