Giant-Landover’s a ‘Good Neighbor’ Once More

Giant Food LLC, based in Landover, Md., has rolled out its 26th annual Good Neighbor Food and Funds Drive to help stock the shelves of five regional food banks during the holidays. The chain-wide hunger relief program, which runs through Nov. 28, enables shoppers to help needy individuals and families by donating money or nonperishable food items at neighborhood Giant Food stores. The Ahold banner has set a goal to raise $300,000 for its food bank partners.

Through the program, Giant Food customers can add $1, $3 or $5 to their grocery bills at checkout, or place shelf-stable items in a collection cart. Shoppers who donate $5 at Baltimore area-stores will receive a special Ravens tailgating bag, and those who make a $5 donation at all other stores will get a Giant reusable bag.

The Good Neighbor drive is the first of several Giant initiatives to help eliminate hunger in the region this holiday season. The 13th annual Giant “Stuff-A-Truck” is slated to place at four Washington, D.C.-area stores on Dec. 13 to benefit the Capital Area Food Bank.

Giant Food operates 169 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia, and employs about 20,000 associates.
