Green Hills’ Live Tech Lab Adds Consumer Scanning Solution

Green Hills’ in-store Center for Advanced Retail Technology (CART) has formed a new partnership with Ikan Technologies, a Stamford, Conn.-based technology vendor that provides a wi-fi-enabled kitchen unit allowing consumers to scan items as they’re discarded, and then generates a shopping list based on what’s thrown away.

In accordance with CART’s mission to be an educational resource, Ikan is on display at the center to showcase the solution’s benefits to shoppers. “CART’s vision of Retail 3.0 is all about the shopper, making Ikan a natural fit in that it provides the shopper a better way to interact with their grocery store,” said Sterling Hawkins, EVP of Syracuse, N.Y.-based Green Hills. “In keeping with the promise of 3.0, participating retailers are realizing strong returns.”

Ikan can also be used with such services as Peapod for grocery delivery in 30 metropolitan markets. Ikan is currently deployed at almost 20 supermarkets, including the entire D’Agostino chain in New York.

Green Hills’ Center for Advanced Retail Technology was created to enhance industry learning through hands-on, behind-the-scenes views into new and forthcoming technologies, and discussion focused on changing business practices.
